Little Free Libraries
Bags of Help for little free libraries
Tesco Bags of Help Scheme gave us £3000 in 2019 towards our Little Free Libraries project. Little Free Libraries is an international book sharing movement. For more info visit https://littlefreelibrary.org/
Our Little Libraries
Our local scheme is just for children and young people, to encourage families to share books and read for pleasure. We worked in partnership with the Landscape Partnership, North Lincolnshire Council and local community groups and schools.
We have now installed three libraries at the following venues:
- Luddington & Garthore School
- The Arc Community Centre
- Belton Kitchen & Visitor Centre
During the Power of Words Festival 2020, we held a competition for children in these communities to design what the little libraries would look like. They were also treated some live storytelling by theatre group Tell Tale Hearts.
The little libraries were made by the Landscape Partnership and decorated by Artist Mandy Keating in the winning designs.
Each library was carefully stocked with a good range of new and classic children’s books carefully picked by expert book seller Peter’s Books. The design winners were invited back to officially open the little libraries in September 2019.
We need your help
We would like to bring more little libraries to communities across North Lincolnshire, especially where children don’t have access to one of our local libraries.
We would love to hear from any companies that might like to sponsor a little library in their community. Little libraries cost approximately £1000 - £1500 including books and launch event.
