Our Projects
Big Memories with Little Babies
The North Lincolnshire Children’s Literacy Trust has teamed up with The Health Tree Foundation for the neonatal book gift scheme at Scunthorpe's Neonatal unit.
Little Free Libraries
Tesco Bags of Help Scheme gave us £3000 in 2019 towards our Little Free Libraries project. Little Free Libraries is an international book sharing movement.
Volunteers
We have now trained over 60 Reading Champions who work in over 20 schools across North Lincolnshire, supporting children on a 1:1 basis to developing their reading skills and a passion for reading for pleasure.
Family Literacy Events
The trust has provided free or very low cost literacy events for families in North Lincolnshire to enjoy. We have sponsored live outdoor theatre events during the Power of Words Festivals. Heartbreak Theatre performed David Walliams Gangsta Granny and Midnight Gang to hundreds of North Lincolnshire Families, during the festival.
Fun Family Literacy
During the Covid-19 Crisis. The children's literacy trust have been supplying families living in areas of deprivation with Fun Literacy Resource Kits to support home learning. Initially we gave out over 400 'A Place Called Home' resources to families with early years children. Which included a copy of our chair's picture book 'A Place Called Home' and some fun activities linked to the book.
After the success of the above we decided to raise more donations to create 100 Fun Family Literacy Resource Kits. These include books, dictionaries, reading and writing games, instructional kits and much more.
We have only been able to achieve this through kind sponsorship and donations from our community partners. Special thanks go to the following for their support:
- Phillipa Hobson Ellyatt
- Scunthorpe Lions
- Scunthorpe & District Rotary Club
- Shah's Uniform
- Paradise Min
- Wrendale Design
- Nettl of Scunthorpe
- North Lincolnshire Council
- Children's Centres, Family Learning, Words Count & Libraries
Plus all the fabulous individual sponsors who have made a donation via our page - THANK YOU!
